In the summer of 2016, three new members joined the Center for Victim and Human Rights board of directors. For this month’s Board Member Spotlight, we interviewed one of these new members, Mary Hutchison, to learn a little more about who she is.
Here is what we learned:
What initially sparked your interest in becoming a board member for the CVHR?
I loved the work that the organization was doing, the fact that they were directly impacting the lives of victims. CVHR was doing work that no other organization was doing.
What are you most excited to do or accomplish in your role as board member for the CVHR?
Making a difference. Helping a single victim can impact so many lives. I am most excited about supporting the staff of CVHR and helping them do the amazing work that they do. I am constantly amazed at Raio’s vision and his passion for helping others. I am so excited to work with him and help him succeed in making Indianapolis a better place.
What has been your favorite part about being a board member for the CVHR thus far?
Getting to know the staff and fellow board members. I have loved seeing the excitement that people have for this amazing organization. This is seriously a great group of people.
If given a chance, who would you like to be for a day?
President. I would love the power to make a few changes that need to be made. If I couldn’t make the changes in a day, I could at least shake things up a bit.
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us?
I can be shy in new situations.
Are you messy or organized?
Messy! Very very messy!
What did you want to be when growing up?
I LOVED She-Ra Princess of Power. Loved her. I wanted to be her.
What is the first concert you attended?
Michael Jackson (and the Jackson 5) Victory tour– I was in 2nd grade and it was awesome!!!
What tv show/movie are you ashamed to admit you love?
Ernest Goes to Camp.
What was your favorite book, toy, or outfit as a child?
Paddington. I had the bear and loved the book.
