[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Say hello to Amy Carter, Center for Victim and Human Rights’ newest Board Member! To learn a little bit more about who she is and why she chose to volunteer with the Center for Victim and Human Rights, we asked Amy the following questions:
What initially sparked your interest in becoming a board member for the CVHR?
The people! I met Emily and Raio at Get On Board, a great event that Leadership Indianapolis puts on, and we jumped into real conversation from the get go. I asked about their work with domestic violence victims and their excitement about the work of CVHR was contagious. I wanted in.
What are you most excited to do or accomplish in your role as board member for the CVHR?
After an event just recently, I made a goal to try to bring at least two friends or family members to events I attend for CVHR. I really want to be able to talk about the things we’re doing and get people excited to partner with us. I’m also weirdly excited to help with our internal policy planning and decisions.
What has been your favorite part about being a board member thus far for the CVHR?
I’ve been on the job just a few short weeks, but I love meeting the people in the circles of those involved with CVHR. Each event I attend, I end up talking to people doing incredibly cool jobs and changing the world.
Best vacation you’ve been to?
It’s a tie between Kauai and DC. I lived on Kauai for 8 months, which was like an extended vacation in the most gorgeous place on earth, but the week I spent in DC being a tourist with my parents was the most fun I’ve had on a vacation.
Do you have a favorite newspaper, blog?
I read Cup of Jo daily and especially love the Motherhood Around the World series and the Week of Outfits posts.
Motto or personal mantra?
You’ll do fine. People have the phenomenal capacity. (A line from one of my favorite scenes in one of my favorite shows, The West Wing.)
Tell us a little about yourself.
I have a tattoo on my foot of Harry Potter’s glasses and scar.
I LOVE all things Christmas.
My favorite color is burgundy.
I sing a lot of showtunes – current favorite is First Burn.
Top 3 life highlights?
My wedding.
Being the officiant at my college roommate’s wedding.
Getting a job doing what I want to be doing.
What book did you read last?
I’m listening to The Night Circus…again. It and The Time Traveler’s Wife compete for top billing on my list of favorite books. I’ve read each at least three times.
What is an ability you wish you had?
To Apparate. My husband goes to school in Florida and apparating would make it so much easier to see him.
