Staff Spotlight – Leontiy V. Korolev, Staff Attorney

December 22, 2017

In December of 2017, the Center for Victim and Human Rights hired a new Staff Attorney, Leontiy V. Korolev, thanks to the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust.  The Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust was established upon the death of Nina Mason Pulliam in 1997 to support the causes she loved in her home states of Arizona and Indiana.  The Trust seeks to help people in need, protect animals and nature, and enrich community life in metropolitan Indianapolis and Phoenix.  Since its inception the Trust has distributed more than $283 million.  For more information visit

We are absolutely thrilled to have another addition to the CVHR team, and we would love for our readers to get to know Leontiy through our latest Staff Spotlight.

Here are Leontiy’s answers to our interview questions:

What about the Center for Victim and Human Rights attracted you to initially apply for the Staff Attorney position?
I applied to the CVHR because of the organization’s staff, as well as its focus on ethics, victim assistance, attorney development, and quality of life.

What are you most excited about in working for the Center for Victim and Human Rights?
I am excited about developing the required skill to be able to provide legal assistance to those in need.

Before working at CVHR, what was the most unusual or interesting job you ever had?
I have had many jobs.  I suppose the most unusual and interesting was the time I spent two weeks working on a farm in Ecuador picking coffee beans, planting yucca, and macheting brush.

Are you messy or organized?
Messy. Period. Although, I do not think those have to be mutually exclusive!!

Best vacation you’ve been to?
I wouldn’t call it a vacation, but my wife and I backpacked across South America for 6 months.  We ended up, somewhat randomly, in Antarctica.  I don’t think any vacation from here on out will compare. You can find thousands of photos on

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us?
I, along with a partner-friend, run a roller hockey league. We play on an “abandoned” ice rink in Irvington.

What are your top 3 life highlights?

Travel – The travel above, but also any time I get to explore a new area.
Getting hired at CVHR.

What book did you read last?
Like others on the team, I am often very slowly juggling several books.  The last one I finished was the Killers of Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to read and stay active.  So, I play a lot of hockey and listen to a lot of “audible”.

What’s your favorite thing to do in the wonderful city of Indianapolis?
This city has really grown on me.  There are so many great things to do.  Nothing beats running and biking on its streets and trails on a nice day.  My favorite place to eat right now is the Three Carrots restaurant in Fountain Square.
